Final Interview Questions:

Does texting have a place in teaching?

1.     What kind of phone do you have? What have you had previously?
2.     What is your history, first initial thought and reaction to texting?
3.     Do you remember when you first started using texting?
4.     Do you text differently to different people? Give me an example.
5.     How do you use texting personally versus professionally? Is there a difference?
6.     Do you ever use texting for work purposes?
7.     How do you use/ what do you use texting for on a daily basis?
8.     What are your thoughts on texting, both negative and positive?
9.     Do you think terms from texting are being used in common speech? Do you use terms from texting in common speech?
10.  Does texting effect the face-to-face conversations that students and adults are having?
11.  Do you feel texting is taking over the communication of today’s generation?
12.  If texting ever came up in any previous conversations with your colleagues what was mentioned in the discussion?
13.  Do you remember any teachers every saying anything about their students texting in a class?
14.  Do you ever notice your student’s texting in class? What is your general response? Can you tell me about a time or a story that you have when a student was texting in class?
15.  Do you ever see your student’s texting in class? How do you feel when you use them using their phone?
16.  How is texting used in teaching today? Do you ever encourage your students to use texting in the classroom?
17.  Do you think texting has a positive or negative effect in the classroom?
18.  What are your thoughts on students using texting as a way to take notes?
19.  If texting ever came up in any previous conversations with your colleagues what was mentioned in the discussion?
20.  What do you see as a role with texting in a class/teachers?
21.  Have had any experience with trying to encourage texting in the classroom?
22.  Can you tell me a little bit about your personal experience with texting - not as a teacher?
23.  Has the way you text changed depending on your phone?  Can you give me an example?
24.  Have you talked to other educators about using texting as a teaching tool?
 Have you ever used texting as part of a project for any of your classes?  What did you do?  How did it work out?  IF you haven’t used it, can you think of a way you might use it?  What kinds of literacy skills might you teach with texting?
25.  Have you used twitter in association with any of your courses?  How do you use it?
26.  If you have course blogs - do you know whether any of your students access your course site/materials /keep in touch with you through their phones?  Do you use texts to communicate with them?  Do they text you?  If they don’t = why do you think not? 
27.  Some student use their phones to take notes - what do you think about that?  Do you think it would be useful to teach text-notetaking or strategies for using texting to map out ideas for papers/ etc? 
28.  If you notice your student texting in the classroom, what do you do?

29.  Have you ever used backchannel - if so what was it like? What do you think about it?
